Its something different when you see a country tag is seen in the Google search results. And immediately you will know that this site is country specific. This term is used to target country specific domains. There are many websites which are having business in single country. Small business owners are mainly comes into this category and will be beneficial for them.

Here is the example of the search engine result that shows country tag for the Geo targeted websites.

What is Geo targeting in Google webmaster tool?
There is a setting for this Geo targeting in the Google webmaster tool where you can select the targeted country for your website on the Google search results. This will add the selected country tag in the search results which will increase the click trough rate for the country specific users.

Who can use Geo targeting in Google webmaster tool?
If you targeting website is country specific and need to grow traffic from Google then this process will suit you most. In general you don’t need to use this method for the websites where if you applied this method to website and wanted to change it later then it might takes months to recover your website ranking in other countries in search results.

    That’s great info. A few years back while working on a US based website, I noticed that a large percentage of visitors were from India, although I had done the GEO targeting to US.

    After some in-depth analysis, we learnt that many Indian websites contained links towards this website, due to which it’s credibility was more inclined towards Indian visitors.

    Also, i had learnt that Google tracks the location of visitors towards a website and partially decides the geo targeting for the website based on this location.
