The Challenge

Infomedia18 operated large directory and discovery properties where organic search was an important source of user discovery.

I worked across two major properties:

Yellow Pages

and

Burrp.com

The challenge was to improve visibility across large numbers of pages while dealing with keyword targeting, page optimization, internal linking, off-page authority and changing SEO practices.

The objective was not simply to execute SEO tasks.

It was to continuously identify opportunities that could help important pages move toward stronger search positions, including first-page visibility where possible.

My Approach

I worked across 6+ major SEO workstreams:

  1. On-page optimization
  2. Keyword and competitor research
  3. Internal linking
  4. Off-page SEO
  5. Link opportunity research
  6. Analytics and performance monitoring
  7. Developer coordination where technical changes were required

This gave me exposure to both the execution side and the diagnostic side of SEO.

Search Ranking Improvement

A key part of my work involved identifying pages that had the potential to move higher in search results.

I regularly reviewed:

  • Keyword positions
  • Page relevance
  • Competitor rankings
  • On-page gaps
  • Linking opportunities
  • Content issues
  • Search-result behavior

The objective was to improve selected pages toward stronger ranking positions, including Page 1 visibility for relevant searches where achievable.

Rather than treating rankings as fixed, I looked at them as a problem to diagnose:

Why is this page not ranking higher?

Then:

What can realistically be changed to improve it?

Research-Driven Off-Page SEO

Off-page SEO was a significant part of search strategy during this period.

I built and maintained research lists containing websites and platforms that could be evaluated for external visibility and link-acquisition opportunities.

These included areas such as:

  • Social bookmarking
  • Article distribution
  • Website submissions
  • External content opportunities
  • Relevant link sources

The important part of the work was not merely submitting links.

It was the research process behind discovering opportunities.

I continuously searched for new websites, categorized opportunities and expanded the available resource base rather than relying only on existing lists.

Recognized for Resourcefulness

This research-oriented working style resulted in me receiving a:

Most Resourceful Award

at an annual company event.

The recognition reflected my ability to research extensively, identify new SEO opportunities and find practical ways to solve problems rather than depending only on standard internal resources.

That mindset has remained part of how I approach SEO throughout my career:

Research → Diagnose → Test → Measure → Improve

Why This Experience Still Matters

The specific tactics used in SEO have changed significantly since 2011.

For example, many high-volume link acquisition techniques commonly used during that era would not be appropriate under today’s search guidelines.

But the core professional skills developed during this role remain relevant:

  • Research deeply
  • Understand ranking problems
  • Analyze competitors
  • Find overlooked opportunities
  • Test ideas
  • Track performance
  • Adapt when search changes
  • Keep learning

The tactics changed.

The problem-solving process did not.

What This Demonstrates to Clients

This experience shows that my SEO background did not begin with dashboards, AI tools or automated audits.

It was built through hands-on work:

Researching → Optimizing → Testing → Tracking → Improving

That foundation later helped me work on increasingly larger and more complex SEO environments, including Justdial, Hungama and Sony LIV.
